U6 & U7 Co-Ed Game Format & Rules

Play is conducted as 4 vs. 4 using a size 3 ball.
Players should be encouraged to participate in both offense and defense.
There are no goalkeepers; players should not remain parked in front of the goal. Referees will encourage players to move up the field.

A match consists of four 8‑minute quarters.
2–3 minute breaks between quarters.
5‑minute halftime.
Games are scheduled one hour apart, and each match must be completed within that hour.

Referees & Coaching Area

Referees will monitor the game, keep time, and enforce all division rules.
Coaches are NOT permitted on the pitch at any time.
Coaches must remain on their half of the field and may not cross the center flag

Kick‑ins are used from the spot where the ball went out along the touchline.
If the ball goes out over the end line, it is moved to the corner for a corner kick‑in.
Goal kicks are taken from the arc, with the defending team retreating to the half‑line.
No additional penalties are used beyond ensuring safe and fair play.

Slide tackles are not permitted and result in an indirect free kick for the non‑offending team.
Young players may bump, trip, or fall unintentionally due to developing coordination.
If a child deliberately runs into others, coaches should correct the behavior; repeated issues may require a brief sit‑out.
Handling (handball) is not enforced. If a player picks up the ball, the referee restarts play quickly with an indirect free kick.
No offside at this age level.
No heading. A headed ball results in play stopping and restarting with the ball placed on the ground.
Referees should stop play immediately if a player is down and at risk of injury.
Players should be encouraged to get up quickly after falling.

Scores are not recorded.
Coaches should keep games competitive and evenly matched.
Adjusting lineups after the first quarter is encouraged when needed.
A player may switch jerseys and play for the other team if numbers or skill levels are uneven.

- Teams sit on separate halves of the same sideline
- Parents/supporters must stay on the opposite sideline
- Parents/supporters may NOT sit behind the goals
